Mindfulness skills: Developing agency over our focus

“People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive.â€

Workshop: Mindfulness skills - Developing agency over our focus

In today’s society, our attention is for sale. We can look up from our smart devices and wonder where the hours have gone. At the same time, productivity is highly valued, and it can feel like every morning we face a never-ending mountain of to-dos. In these moments, it can feel like life is happening to us instead of us truly living it.

What: This mindfulness workshop offers the opportunity to practice skills of returning to the present moment and bringing our awareness inwards to allow us the agency to choose what we do next. In this way, one conscious decision at a time, we can begin to feel more influence over our lives, including our work, our studies, and our relationships.

Teacher: This session is led by Maxi-Ann Campbell, University Teacher in English at the Language Center and Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher. Maxi-Ann began practicing mindfulness meditation eight years ago while living in China and hopes to facilitate these practices of wellbeing with her students and colleagues at Aalto.

Who can participate: Aalto students and staff. Maximum number of participants is 25.

Please notice that this mindfulness-workshop might not be suitable for people in acute crisis or with severe mental health issues. In case you are wondering if this workshop would be best for you, please feel free to contact us in advance to discuss confidentially.
