I am a long-term member of the Aalto community: I have studied and worked in Otaniemi for over 30 years, graduated and obtained my doctorate from the Helsinki University of Technology, and smoothly transitioned ÄûÃʵ¼º½ University from there. During the recent term, I have had the opportunity to participate in meetings both in the AAC (Academic Affairs Committee) and PAK (SCI Committee) as a deputy member.

I teach large basic courses in computer science. We have long been living in a time of disruption, where education is increasingly moving online and leveraging various artificial intelligence solutions and the opportunities they bring. This disruption also requires adequate resourcing to ensure that the transition to future solutions is carried out wisely. My research is related to learning analytics and educational technology, providing me with a research-oriented perspective on managing this disruption.

My goal in the Academic Affairs Committee is to ensure that maintaining and promoting the quality of teaching and research is seen as the key and equally important objectives of our university, without forgetting societal interaction. My interest in running for AAC membership stems from two factors: firstly, my extensive academic career, and secondly, my experience as a shop steward at our university and involvement in the Union of Research Professionals, Tieteentekijät, at both local and national levels.

I was first employed at Helsinki University of Technology in the summer of 1988 in the Laboratory of Computer and Information Science.  Since then, I have been nominated in the positions of assistant, laboratory engineer, teaching researcher, and senior university lecturer. I have also served as an acting associate professor and an academy research fellow. When the position of dean of the School of Electrical Engineering was filled in 2023, I was identified among the considered applicants as the one with the greatest scientific merits.

I have been a group leader in three Centers of Excellence funded by the Research Council of Finland, advised 11 doctoral theses, and supervised 48 master's theses. In total, I have more than 300 scientific publications, been the responsible teacher of 9 different courses, and served as the responsible person for the Macadamia M.Sc. major. Full CV:

Building a more open and functional Aalto — together

I am running for re-election ÄûÃʵ¼º½ University’s Academic Affairs Committee. During my previous term, I learned that the best results come from listening to staff and students and building understanding across schools.  I want to continue developing our community through openness and consistency: fair preparation, clear decisions, use of staff insight and smooth collaboration between administration and academia.

In the next term, I aim to strengthen Aalto’s everyday life — making decision-making more open, efficient and visibly impactful. I’m grateful for the trust I’ve received and hope that we can continue this work together in the coming term.  Thank you for helping us build Aalto — together.

I currently work in the IT Services Teaching and Learning team, as a Digital Learning Services solution owner. I find it important that things are handled correctly and fairly. Many of the decisions made by Aalto's Academic Affairs Committee affect our work in Learning services, and we see the impact of these decisions in our daily lives. Therefore, I want to be involved in the decision-making process from the start. My goal is for the matters decided in the Academic Affairs Committee to be sensible and for their practical consequences to be considered from multiple perspectives.

I am currently on a job rotation in Teacher services, but I will be returning to my position as a planning officer of the bachelor’s programme at the School of Engineering in January 2026. I thus have experience from Aalto in both school-level work and university-level work, and I believe this helps me to approach issues comprehensively.

Aalto University's learning and teaching structures are guided through Learning Services.

Vote for me:
- If you want a fresh and clear alternative to the current state of learning services.
- If you want a change in the fragmentation, non-existent resourcing and poor quality of LES' digital services.
- If you want the position of library staff to be improved as well. We need their expert guidance when digital materials, AI and their side effects are already everyday life.
- If you want to ensure that academic decision-making is democratic and open, and that no one is discriminated against because of their own views.
- If you want visibility into the well-being of learning services and a change in situations where the employee's workload has become too high. A workload situation is a result, for example, of superiors' demands exceeding the employees' resources. The burnout of a stressed employee may be experienced by superiors as nagging and refusing to do tasks without reason, which leads to an inhumane situation for the employee.
- If you want your voice to be heard! When elected, we will always go through the issues being discussed at AAC together!

I also have previous experience from various working groups related to education and teaching at Aalto. In AAC, I would promote the best solutions for the entire university by carefully reviewing the proposals. I am a good choice to vote for because I have a lot of experience in influencing decision-making and I am familiar with the subject matters discussed in the AAC. Hi, and thanks for reading this!

The world is changing fast. The key forces shaping Aalto today are the rapid rise of artificial intelligence and society’s shifting attitude toward science and universities. It’s no longer self-evident that education will be spared from cuts. How Aalto and its people act now will define what we can do in the future. The right decisions today will pay off tomorrow.

I’m a specialist at the intersection of research and public decision-making, leading the Aalto Economic Institute for over ten years. I have extensive experience and a strong desire to develop Aalto into a more socially impactful community, one that fully uses its members’ skills and stands strong through current upheavals while advancing Finland’s interests.  I’ve taken part in academic decision-making since the early 2000s, from serving as a student representative at TKK to chairing SYL to my current work.

My strong expertise and interest are in university administration, infrastructures, and the campus. My work allows me to participate in all these areas. I have been member of the AAC since 2018.

I have been a long-standing deputy shop steward and currently serve as the chief shop steward of JUKO. My university background is as a laboratory manager in Automotive Engineering.  I was actively involved in student union activities during the 90s, and I continue to participate weekly in activities related to the Museum of Student Life and TEK activities. Thus, I have a perspective on change, a wide network, and a certain understanding of what the future may demand. I am ready to continue developing Aalto University in collaboration with you.
