The building services renovation project was formally handed over yesterday, Tuesday, September 30. A list of minor defects and shortcomings remains, which the contractor will correct over the coming weeks. The issues identified were relatively small in scale.
During the previously announced room-specific airflow adjustment work, it was observed that the intended use of several spaces had changed. In practice, this means that some rooms previously used as meeting rooms still have ventilation designed for larger spaces, while new smaller meeting rooms have ventilation levels corresponding to small offices. These imbalances will be corrected during the adjustment work.
As part of the changes, a few rooms will require additional ventilation ducts and terminals to ensure sufficient airflow for their current use.
The affected rooms are:
B337: add 1 supply + 1 exhaust
The main phase of the building services renovation is nearing completion. As part of the work, new fans were adjusted to provide the same total airflow levels as the old fans. Room-specific airflow rates were last adjusted in 2020, so no adjustments were initially planned during this renovation.
However, it was discovered that the room-specific airflow settings were significantly out of balance. This has caused, among other things, noise disturbances in lecture halls and offices. Therefore, room-specific airflow rates will now be readjusted. For building users, this means that the covers of the active chilled beams will remain open during the measurement phase.
The measurement work will take approximately four weeks in total. Two technicians will be working in different rooms of the building, and the disturbance will be greatest in the spaces where they are present at any given time. The work has already started and will continue seamlessly as part of the renovation project.
Ventilation will operate at full capacity throughout the process, which may result in louder airflow noises in some rooms. Once completed, the adjustments will reduce noise disturbances and ensure that each space has appropriate ventilation.
