Aalto University - India Collaboration

Aalto University has a strong, long-standing role in academic collaboration with India. Aalto led the Finnish Ministerial efforts to establish the Finnish Indian Consortia for Research and Education (FICORE) in 2014. Aalto acts as the National Coordinator for the FICORE Network since then. At the institutional level, Aalto supports academic collaboration with India through internal seed and mobility funding.

Indian nationals are the fourth-largest nationality in Aalto’s master’s and postdoctoral programs and the third largest among doctoral researchers. There are over 500 Aalto alumni in India. Aalto has more than 495 co-publications affiliated to India during 2020-24. 22% of the co-publications belong to most cited 10% in their field (2020-2023).

India is a strategic country for student recruitment for Aalto. Aalto schools continue to expand student exchange partnerships with Indian institutions, and some are exploring new transnational partnership models (e.g., progression, articulation, twinning). India is also a focus country for Aalto Summer School and Aalto University Executive Education (AEE) activities.

This page provides an overview of Aalto–India collaboration for audiences interested in India. It is updated biannually and covers the past five years.
