Frequently asked questions
The dress code is dark suit or dark outfit. During the procession, only the President wears a ceremonial gown, chain, and doctoral hat. The Deans wear chains but no ceremonial gown or doctoral hat.
If applicable, the tights should be of natural shade.
Please note that bags are not allowed in the procession inside U2 hall and need to be left in the guarded cloak room (opposite to U2 hall).
Vegetarian buffet will be served. Food restrictions that are informed beforehand will be noted.
The academic procession walks as a group in the following order:
- As pairs: President and Chair of the Board of Aalto University Student Union (AYY)
- As pairs: Provost and Aalto Distinguished Professor
- Vice Presidents - in self-determined order
- The Deans - in self-determined order
- The Vice Deans - in self-determined order
- Aalto Distinguished Professors

The rest of the Professors at random order (not organised by years of service or school) - in self-determined order
12.50 The procession will leave Restaurant Arvo for U2 hall, Otakaari 1M.
13.00 Doors to the public close. Professors’ procession to be finalised.
13.15 Doors to hall U2 open for the procession.
The procession will walk down the middle aisle. The first 11 people will take a place on the first row on the right side. The President’s seat is the first seat on the first row with the Chair of the AYY Board beside them. The Provost, Aalto Distinguished Professor, and Vice Presidents will also all be seated in the first row to the right of the President.
