Working with and selling to the public sector

Working with the public sector poses challenges for private companies, for example for startups seeking to sell innovative products and services or for corporates seeking to engage in public-private partnerships. In this event, we feature three experts who will provide their views on how corporates and startups can best work with the public sector, both from the academic and the practitioner perspective. Topics we will touch upon include: how to set up public-private partnerships for success; how to get a public sector organization as pilot customer for a new product/service; and more generally how procurement processes work in the public sector.

Karlos Artto is a Professor of Project Business at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management at Aalto University. As an expert in project management, he has done research on, for example, large projects organized as public-private partnerships and on procurement at the Finnish Defence Forces.

Jukka Mäkelä is the former Mayer of the City of Helsinki and an Executive-in-Residence at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management at Aalto University. He is an alumnus of Aalto University with an MSc degree in Material Sciences and an MBA, and he also holds an honorary doctorate from Aalto University.

Sara Ikonen is COO of NPHarvest, an Aalto University spin-off focusing on recouping nutrients from waste water, which sells its products primarily to public sector organizations. She has earlier worked at McKinsey & Company and is an alumna from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management at Aalto University

This is a great opportunity to hear about the latest insights and learn about best practices as well as share experiences with your colleagues. The event is free of charge and open for all Aalto alumni who are interested in the topic of strategy.
