Registration for Alumni Weekend 2025 is officially closed. You can still ask for available spots via email: alumni@aalto.fi.

During Alumni Weekend's four program tracks, you will learn more about the future of innovation, changing leadership, the relationship of the circular economy and energy transition and multipurpose technologies straight from the experts.

The program tracks consist of speeches, panels and interactive segments. Almost all tracks have a short break during which you can stretch your legs and enjoy a cup of coffee.

The language of the tracks will be English.

Participation does not require any prior knowledge or preparation – a curious and open mind is enough!

The program tracks will take place in the afternoon, approx. 14.15-15.45. You can join the track of your choosing and also switch to another track during the break. 

Speaker bios

Mika Maliranta
Mika Maliranta

Mika Maliranta is the Director of the Labour Institute for Economic Research LABORE and a Professor at the University of Turku, where his research and teaching focus on the drivers of economic growth, particularly productivity growth and the functioning of labour markets. He also serves as Chair of the OECD’s Industry Analysis Working Party, Vice-Chair of the Finnish Council of Regulatory Impact Analysis, and as a member of the national Productivity Board. He is the author of the book Beneath the Surface – Why a Period of Strong Economic Growth Lies Ahead.

Kristian Tornivaara
Kristian Tornivaara

Kristian Tornivaara is a defence technology oriented global business professional and experienced executive director with entrepreneur, engineer, and coder background. He has a profound experience in building world-class specialist organizations, and multiple success stories in evolving from research to products with international market entries and business strategies with hardware, software, and expert services. Currently, he works as the Managing Director of Saab Finland, the world leading company in tactical electronic warfare systems.

Mikko Dufva

Mikko Dufva is a Leading Foresight Specialist at Sitra and Adjunct Professor in Futures Studies at Aalto University. His work focuses on exploring future developments, the tensions between them, and the perceptions and narratives that shape our view of the future. He also seeks to identify issues that may not be immediately visible but are nonetheless highly significant in the long term. Mikko has extensive experience in foresight and holds a Doctor of Science degree, having specialised in the production of futures knowledge and systemic foresight

Ia Adlercreutz

Ia Adlercreutz is a Professor of Practice at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, where she belongs to the Artpreneurship research group exploring the role of artistic creativity in business and leadership. She is also the founder and CEO of Co-founders Oy, a consultancy that helps companies align strategy, culture, and creativity in times of transformation. With more than 20 years of leadership experience in Nordic and global companies such as Kekkilä, Fiskars, and Harvia, Ia combines board-level business expertise with a background in the arts. She is a third-generation entrepreneur, a farmer, and a mother of five. Her multifaceted background gives her a rare capacity to view life, business, and society through many different lenses. Ia’s current work focuses on how artistic methods can strengthen leadership, culture, and innovation, offering businesses new ways to navigate uncertainty and create meaning.

Frank Martela is an internationally recognised expert on motivation, well-being, and meaningfulness, and how leaders, organisations, and societies can foster them. He is an Assistant Professor at Aalto University with two PhDs, in organisational research and practical philosophy. Martela has published widely in leading scientific journals and written for outlets such as Harvard Business Review and CNBC. A sought-after commentator on why Finland ranks among the world’s happiest countries, he has been interviewed by major global media, including The New York Times and BBC. As a keynote speaker, he has addressed companies worldwide and lectured at universities on five continents, including Harvard and Stanford. His latest book, Stop Chasing Happiness – A Pessimist’s Guide to a Good Life (Atlantic Books, 2025), follows his earlier bestseller A Wonderful Life (HarperCollins, 2020), translated into 29 languages.

Astrid Huopalainen

Astrid Huopalainen is an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Leadership for Creativity, holding a cross-disciplinary position in the Department of Management Studies and the Department of Art and Media at Aalto University. Her research on leadership for organizational creativity is based on in-depth ethnographic work in Finnish companies, where she examines creativity as a collective phenomenon in the workplace and how it emerges, or fails to emerge, in everyday work practices. She is particularly interested in the role of leadership in creating conditions for creativity to flourish, including experimentation, trust, and open-mindedness, as well as the influence of organizational culture, collective effort, and empowering leadership.

Professor Jussi Ryynänen received the D.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Helsinki University of Technology, Espoo, Finland, in 2004. He is currently a full professor and the Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering, Aalto University. He has authored or co-authored more than 200 refereed journal and conference papers in analog and RF circuit design. Prof. Ryynänen is currently SG Member for the European Solid-State Circuits Conference (ESSCIRC) and the IEEE Nordic Circuits and Systems Conference (NORCAS). He has served as a TPC member of IEEE ISSCC and ESSCIRC.

Pauliina Martikainen
Pauliina Martikainen

Pauliina Martikainen is a General Partner at Maki.vc, a Nordic VC firm focused on backing the region’s most ambitious founders on their first investment round. From deep tech to enterprise software and consumer applications, she has been investing in and working on a board of directors of fast scaling tech companies across a range of categories. Currently, she is particularly keen on AI and the evolution of human experience at home, at work, and in-between. Prior to joining Maki.vc, Pauliina co-founded Wave Ventures, Europe's largest student-run VC firm backing the most exceptional Gen Z founders in the New Nordics at the earliest stage. 
Before her years in venture capital, she worked in the field of marketing and communications with global brands in industries such as pharma, food, and beauty.

Riku Vassinen
Riku Vassinen

Riku Vassinen is the CEO of Hasan & Partners and a marketing leader with over 20 years of international experience across Africa, Asia, and Europe. He has advised global brands such as Google, Netflix, Coca-Cola, Unilever, and Diageo, and his creative work has been recognized with multiple international awards. Vassinen is also the author of four books, most recently "Viherpesutalous", exploring the role of sustainability in brand building. As a speaker, he is known for his laconic humor and loud voice. 

Anna-Riikka Vuorikari-Antikainen
Anna-Riikka Vuorikari-Antikainen

Anna-Riikka Vuorikari-Antikainen, M.Sc. (Tech.) is the CCO of silicon wafer manufacturer Okmetic, a Member of SEMI Silicon Manufacturers' Group, and a Board Member in high-tech companies. Anna-Riikka has over 30 years’ experience in the silicon wafer and semiconductor industry, holding a variety of leadership and expert positions.

She has led Okmetic sales since 2014, following senior executive roles in sensor business development and silicon products. Anna-Riikka majored in Physical Metallurgy and graduated from the Helsinki University of Technology (now Aalto University) in 1992.

Maija Pohjakallio
Maija Pohjakallio

Maija Pohjakallio joined Metsä Group as VP, Climate and Circular Economy in August 2021. She is excited about promoting wellbeing of people and the planet by combining science and business with sustainable development and the circular economy. Prior to Metsä Group, Maija has worked in the field of circular economy at Sulapac Ltd., VTT, the Technical Research Centre of Finland, and the Chemical Industry Federation of Finland. She holds a doctoral degree in physical chemistry and electrochemistry from Helsinki University of Technology. Maija has written several textbook chapters and teaches â€¨about sustainability and the circular economy of materials at the University of Turku.

Janne Peljo kuva

Janne Peljo works as the Chief Policy Advisor on Climate and Biodiversity at the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK). His focus is on the economic and policy dimensions of climate change and biodiversity, with the aim of supporting Finnish businesses’ long-term competitiveness through green growth. Peljo joined EK from Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund, where he led national and international research initiatives focusing on climate and environment from the perspectives of investors, businesses, the economy and policy making. He holds an M.Sc. in Finance from the Aalto University School of Economics and CEMS MIM degree focusing on international business and strategy from Aalto University and HEC Paris. He also served at the Board of KY in 2008 and chaired the KY Foundation in 2011.
