Reveries of a Moving Edge
Coastlines represent the epitome of a vulnerable, contested territory, which is constantly carved by anthropogenic practices rooted in the paradigm of modernity of full control and commodification of natural systems for human interest in the pursuit of growth. As an answer to contemporary climate vulnerabilities such as sea level rise, this thesis shifts Singapore’s coastline from a fixed boundary towards a fluid, adaptive process. The speculative design is driven by temporality and adaptability, challenging the notion of permanence and highlighting a dynamic, process-driven relationship that embraces nature-based solutions, creating a harmonious design between human and non-human.

Partners
CCA was established with two academic partners; Pratt Institute and Pace University giving us the necessary foundational interdisciplinary skills to pursue and implement the goals of our mission. Industrial partnerships with Inhabit Group/Egis and Arcadis further enrich this foundation with a balance of technical expertise and engineering across the built and natural environment. More recently we have enthusiastically (and sooner than anticipated) established (or are in the process of establishing) partnerships in South Asia/India and South America/Chile with Anant National University and Universidad del Desarrollo respectively.
