Coastlines represent the epitome of a vulnerable, contested territory, which is constantly carved by anthropogenic practices rooted in the paradigm of modernity of full control and commodification of natural systems for human interest in the pursuit of growth. As an answer to contemporary climate vulnerabilities such as sea level rise, this thesis shifts Singapore’s coastline from a fixed boundary towards a fluid, adaptive process. The speculative design is driven by temporality and adaptability, challenging the notion of permanence and highlighting a dynamic, process-driven relationship that embraces nature-based solutions, creating a harmonious design between human and non-human.
