The results of national joint applications to higher education institutions have been published through the Studyinfo service. Applicants can check their situation by logging into the My Studyinfo service, familiar from the application stage, at .

A total of 11,741 applicants applied to the six schools of Aalto University in the university application process, which ended at the beginning of April. 3,722 of them applied to study economics at the Helsinki Campus and 845 at the Mikkeli Campus, 5,118 to study technology in architecture and the four schools of technology, and 2,059 applied to study the arts.

The national Studyinfo service is available to all higher education institutions for the first time in this spring’s student selections. The placing procedure in the system grants each applicant one study place. The placing procedure covers all joint applications to universities and universities of applied sciences, and it will end on 12 August. Therefore, the final number of accepted new students will only be determined once all study places have been accepted.

Students accepted in the first placing procedure will be informed of their acceptance through the My Studyinfo service and a letter from the National Board of Education. In addition, Aalto University will notify applicants accepted in the first placing procedure of their admission by email. Info letters on starting studies will be sent to all those accepted starting from week 32, depending on where one applied.

Students learning field-specific terminology through glossary tasks

I interviewed two Aalto University instructors who have used glossaries created by students as coursework in a subject course and a field-specific language course. The assignments are based on active learning methods: the glossaries are not created by the instructor, but by the learners themselves. The interview focused, among other things, on the teaching philosophy behind developing the glossary tasks, how the learning of field-specific vocabulary can be linked to the overall learning objectives of the course, and what technical solutions enable students’ active learning in glossary assignments.
