Aalto University alumni interested in partaking in Alumni Agent activities got together in a virtual kick-off event on Thursday, 11 February. Nearly 200 alumni from 20 different countries registered for the kick-off event.

At the event, Mikko Kosonen, Chairman of the Board of Aalto University, greeted the new Aalto Alumni Agents.

"As Alumni Agents, you have a valuable and significant role to play in supporting and implementing our new strategy," Kosonen greeted the audience.

"Alumni Agent activities will also offer you opportunities to grow and develop professionally while providing us all with meaningful and fun things to do amid everyday toil. After all, the life of Aalto alumni means to learn and grow continuously – in a good company!"

"Aalto is well on its way to becoming a globally unique and attractive university with an important role to play in providing innovative solutions to the world's greatest sustainability challenges. Your role in this demanding task is crucial. Thank you for participating in building a better and more sustainable future with us."

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the event was organised remotely. A brief visit to the university campus was still possible in the form of Aalto's brand new virtual campus tour.

A variety of agent roles sparked interest

When the alumni were asked which Alumni Agent roles they were most interested in, becoming a Student Mentoring Agent seemed to be the most popular option. The roles of International Agent, Student Marketing Agent, Community Agent and Entrepreneurship Agent were found equally interesting.

Becoming a Career Design Agent – an agent role related to the new Career Design Lab concept – also arose interest. Career Design Lab is a pilot service concept that provides students and alumni with the skills to navigate the changing working life.

"I joined the kick-off because I am interested to see and hear what is happening at the Aalto University today, and I hope that I can reciprocate by sharing my own experiences from working life", Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture alumni, technical documentation manager Emmi Helanne said.

"I believe it is time for Aalto cohorts over multiple generations to connect in a virtuous circle of giving and learning from each other. I look forward to learning from the current cohort of students and hope to be able to contribute to their Aalto experience", Raj Unny, MBA alumnus and startups founder, continued.
