Aalto adopts e-certificates
From the beginning of August 2025, students who graduate from Aalto University will receive an electronic degree certificate. Graduation requests will continue to be sent to and processed in Sisu, but an electronic certificate will be provided instead of a physical paper one.
Please note that if your graduation date is 31 July 2025 or earlier, you will receive a paper certificate.
What is an electronic degree certificate?
An electronic degree certificate (also called a digital degree certificate) is as official and reliable as a paper one, but it offers significantly more practical benefits. Digital documents are easy to distribute by email or save in a cloud service, which diminishes the need for storing hard copies. The e-certificate conveniently goes wherever you go.
Why the change?
- Convenient availability: Graduating students can receive their degree certificates more quickly in digital form than in paper.
- Today鈥檚 alternative: E-certificate鈥檚 reduced use of paper and simplified logistics streamlines the process for delivering degree certificates to students. The production and the signing of certificates is no longer tied to a physical locality.
- Practicality: The electronic certificate accompanies you digitally everywhere, making it convenient to deliver to employers and others. In addition, archiving e-certificates is more practical for the university, as it takes place automatically.
To prepare for an electronic degree certificate
- Verify your contact information: Ensure that your contact details are up to date in Sisu, the Aalto student information system. Also check your secondary email address and update it as needed.
- Read the instructions: Aalto provides a full set of instructions and support for e-certificates to facilitate their use and resolve technical issues.
- Reserve enough storage space: Make sure your cloud service or other digital storage location has enough space to securely store your degree certificate.
- Download the certificate: Once you receive an email notification that your degree certificate is available, download it without delay.
