Aalto Fintech Seminar Series presents: New challenges and opportunities facing the financial industry

Seminar topics include digitalisation and new technologies, rapidly changing global landscape and new regulation. Seminars take place between 18 September and 16 October.

Financial sector is facing new challenges and opportunities stemming from digitalisation and new technologies, new regulation and the rapidly changing global landscape with new Fintech start-ups and large tech companies.

During Aalto Fintech seminar series, top Finnish experts, representing both traditional financial institutions and start-up companies, give presentations related to the future of the financial sector and topics such as AI and machine learning, startups, open banking, regulation, and blockchain.

The seminar provides a holistic view on how these factors are powerfully reshaping and redefining the financial industry. The outcome of this development is unknown.

Aalto Fintech seminar series starts on Wednesday 18 September with two presentations on the possibilities of AI and machine learning in the financial industry. While the first presentation by Risto Siilasmaa provides a pragmatic introduction to machine learning, the second presentation by Kaj Hagros introduces a tangible application of Investment decisions powered by machine learning. On Wednesday 25 September the first presentation by Sampsa Laine sheds light to the importance of Application Program Interfaces (APIs) and real-time banking as well as service ecosystems and their increasing complexity. In the second presentation by Bonnie Buchanan, the evolution of Fintech in China is compared with three Western markets, namely, US, UK and Sweden. Read more and register for the event.

The first presentation on October 2 by Timo Ritakallio provides a holistic picture of the disruption of the banking sector. The second presentation by Matti Hellqvist is a deep dive into some core concepts for safe and efficient financial market infrastructures. Read more and register for the event.

Aalto Fintech seminar series continues on Wednesday 9 October with presentations on the payment fraud by Sirpa Nordlund, AI and fairness in banking by Hugo Gävert and building a Fintech by Jarkko Forsberg. Read more and register for the event.

On 16 October the first presentation by Eija Varma-Lehtinen provides a lawyer's perspective to AI and the need for a specific AI regulation. The second presentation by Timo Hotti deals with data ecosystems undergoing a major transformation from centralized silos into decentralized networks. Read more and register for the event.
