Aalto Open Science Award ceremony brought together Aaltonians to discuss open science
Last week we gathered at A Grid to celebrate the awardees of the Aalto Open Science Award 2023 and discuss open science matters with the Aalto community. The event provided a relaxed platform for our community to learn about the awardees, engage in discussions and meet colleagues over coffee and ice cream.
The afternoon began with a screening of a short video created over the spring as the main prize for the winner, Aalto Materials Digitalization Platform (AMAD). The video will be published on YouTube for everyone to watch in the coming days.
Following the screening, Professor Patrick Rinke from AMAD took the stage to talk about AMAD in more detail. The presentation provided attendees with a deeper understanding of AMAD's impact on the field of materials science and its commitment to improved research data management, and open and collaborative research practices.
A highlight of the event was a panel discussion on open science with Professor Patrick Rinke, Professor Riikka Puurunen, who received an honorary mention, and Head of Open Science and ACRIS team, Anne Sunikka. We were delighted by the lively discussion and active engagement from the audience which sparked important and topical conversations on the benefits and challenges of open science both for the researchers and the institutions.
