Aalto University accepts 1 116 applicants for master's studies

The number of applicants increased by 2%.

The application period for Aalto University’s master’s programmes ended on 24 January and the admission results have been published on 6 April 2018. A total of 2 837 people applied for master's degree studies in the fields of art and design, business and economics, and science and technology. Of these, 1 116 new students were selected. The number of applicants increased by 2% from the previous year.

This application period is primarily dedicated to people applying from outside of Aalto University.  Bachelor students at Aalto have in most cases a right to continue their studies in master’s level without re-applying.

Of the applicants, 46% had a Finnish higher education degree. As previously, the greatest numbers of applicants with foreign degrees were from China, India, Pakistan, Great Britain, and the United States. Applications were received from altogether 79 different countries.

Tuition in degree programmes taught in English is subjected to annual fees for non-EU/EEA citizens. 45% of the applicants are citizens of other than EU or EEA countries.

In the field of business and economics, the number of applicants decreased by 19%. The majority of applicants applied on the basis of a Finnish higher education degree. 24% of the applicants applied on the basis of a higher education degree completed outside of Finland. The most popular study options were Business law (available only in Finnish), Management and International Business and Information and Service Management.

In the field of art and design, there was a 2% increase in the number of applicants. 41 % of the applicants applied on the basis of a Finnish higher education degree. Most of the applicants applied with a foreign degree and the top countries were China, Great Britain, and the United States. The most popular study options were Collaborative and Industrial Design and Visual Communication Design.

In the field of science and technology, the number of applicants increased by 9%. As was the case in previous years, the greatest number of applicants came from Finnish higher education institutions, as well as from China, India and Pakistan. 59% of applicants applied with a foreign degree. The most popular study options were the majors Computer Science and Machine Learning, Data Mining and Artificial Intelligence in the Master’s Programme in Computer, Communication and Information Sciences, as well as Architecture and Automation and Electrical Engineering.
