Aalto University admitted 2053 new students to BSc programmes taught in Finnish or in Swedish

New students were also selected through the open university pathway and transfer application

In the second joint application of the spring 2025, 2053 new students were admitted ÄûÃʵ¼º½ University's bachelor's programs taught in Finnish or Swedish, from among 14755 applicants. For the field of science and technology, 1510 students were admitted, 390 for the field of business and economics, and 153 for arts and design.

In the fields of technology and business, the majority of new students are selected based on their grades in the national matriculation exams, while some are admitted through entrance exams. Of those selected for the technology field, 80% were admitted based on their grades, and 60% in the field of business.

Additionally, 42 students were selected for the technology field and 46 for the business field through other selection methods, such as the open university pathway and competition success selection. Among applicants via the open university pathway, 22 students were admitted to the field of technology and 43 to the field of business studies.

In addition to the spring joint application procedure, it is also possible to apply to certain bachelor’s programs taught in Finnish and Swedish through transfer application, allowing students to apply for transfer to another university during their first year of study. This year, altogether 33 were admitted ÄûÃʵ¼º½ through that procedure, of which 18 to the field of technology and 15 to the field of business.

Alternative route to university: open university pathway

Courses at Aalto University's open university offer a wide range of study opportunities for anyone interested in university studies. Based on studies completed at the open university, one can also apply to become a degree student in the fields of technology and business, making the open university studies a good alternative to entrance exams and certificate-based selection.

The application via the open university pathway applies to predefined application targets, and registration for courses is open year-round. The next opportunity to apply to the field of technology via the open university pathway is during the autumn application from September 1 to 11, 2025.
