Aalto University granted €12 million for profiling by Academy of Finland

The funding supports the University in strengthening the research fields chosen.

The Academy of Finland has granted Aalto University €12 million for strengthening its research profile for the next four years. This form of funding supports universities in strengthening the research fields they have chosen.

Three multidisciplinary themes that link the competence areas at Aalto University were granted funding: advanced energy solutions, human-centered living environments as well as health and wellbeing. The funding strengthens the University’s basic funding and it will be used to develop the Aalto University platforms in the fields of multidisciplinary themes. The money will also ensure continued expertise as new professor recruitments can be carried out proactively, which enables transfer of knowledge between the new and the retiring professor.

– It is great that, despite of these difficult times, we were recognised for the strategic development of our operation, says Vice President of Aalto University Tuija Pulkkinen delighted.

The Academy of Finland granted a total of €50 million in funding. The academy made the funding decisions on the basis of assessments by the international panels. Funding for profiling was now granted for the second time. In the first round in May 2015, Aalto University was granted €13.6 million for strengthening profiling.
