Aalto University to acquire sole ownership of Aalto University Properties

Finland’s parliament will make the final decision on the sale.

Aalto University and Senate Properties have reached a deal according to which Aalto University will purchase Senate Properties’ share of Aalto University Properties stock, a total of 33.3 per cent.

After the purchase, Aalto University will hold sole ownership of Aalto University Properties Ltd. The sale is conditional, as it must still be approved by parliament as representative of the state. The parties have committed to seeing the sale through at a quick pace after the parliament has made its decision.

Aalto University feels that autonomy in the ownership of properties is an important step in the long-term development of its campuses. ‘According to the university strategy, the campus is one of the most important factors that facilitate the university's activities and competitiveness. This is why we find it necessary to maintain teaching and research facilities, as well as the innovation ecosystem around them close to the university,’ states Marianna Bom, Aalto University’s Director of Finance.
