As part of the Nokia XG Industrial Doctoral Programme, Aalto University is initiating an effort to define the ramifications of applying artificial intelligence and machine learning in future wireless communications networks. The focus is on industrially relevant topics that push the frontiers of technology towards the next generation of wireless, building deep expertise in using AI/ML for creating competitive 6G radio products. Research towards a thesis will be conducted at Aalto University in collaboration with researchers at Nokia.

Background

This doctoral programme was launched in 2023, thanks to a donation from Nokia Corporation. In 2024, the programme will expand to incorporate Wireless AI/ML.

Call for funded doctoral candidates

We are pleased to announce that the call for two fully funded (up to four years) doctoral researcher positions in the doctoral programme is now open. Read more and submit your application here (opens in a new window): Doctoral Researchers in AI/ML for Wireless Communications.

Professor Olav Tirkkonen from the Department of Information and Communications Engineering at Aalto will act as supervisor of the thesis. In addition, each doctoral candidate will be assigned a thesis advisor at Nokia. For questions on the content of the research proposal, feel free to contact Prof. Tirkkonen.
