Changes to the level ratings of publication channels

60 journals will be downgraded from JUFO level 1 to JUFO level 0 in the beginning of 2025.

In spring 2024, Publication Forum collected information both from researchers and other sources on quality assessment practices of scientific journals. Based on the information, 60 journals were downgraded to JUFO level 0. The downgrade will take place in the beginning of 2025. .

Over one third of the downgraded journals are published by MDPI (Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute).  Aalto University’s researchers have published already 21 articles in these journals in 2024. The most common journals for Aalto’s researchers have been Polymers, Materials, and Energies.

Aalto University has decided to discontinue the 10% discount agreement with MDPI from October 2024 and the 10% discount agreement with Frontiers from the beginning of 2025.

We encourage Aalto’s researchers to check the list of downgraded journals and avoid publishing in them.

Note that according to Aalto’s open science and research policy, acting as a reviewer or being part of the journal board of a predatory journal is considered ethical misconduct.
