Both presentations were strongly linked to findings from ongoing Tekes projects at the Department of Marketing. Mikko's presentation highlighted key findings from his research on e-commerce platforms, focusing on discussing the new business models of global marketplaces such as Amazon.com and Alibaba Group as well as the possibilities that they bring to the Finnish retail sector. Olli on the other hand presented findings from a collaborative research project on the transformation of Finnish retailer S-Group during the 1980's and 1990's.

The Retail Research Day (Kaupan tutkimuspäivät) is an annual research seminar that brings together retail researchers and practitioners from all over the country to discuss recent research in the domain. This year more than 130 retail professionals and researchers were in attendance at Finlandia Hall for the event. The event is organized by the Fund for Retail Research (Vähittäiskaupan tutkimussäätiö ).
