We are looking for world-class research and solutions which address the UN's Sustainable Development Goals

When the new semester starts, Aalto University and Helsinki Design Week will invite everyone to Otaniemi campus for the Designs for a Cooler Planet themed month, which will gather inspiring exhibitions and events on September 2–30, 2020.

We are facing grand systemic changes - By 2030, we must have succeeded in remaking our systems of energy and food production, mobility, living environments and life-long learning models. Also by that time, we should have replaced fossil-based fuels and materials, harmful chemicals and disposable consumption habits with better alternatives.

Instead of building dystopias, we at Aalto University want to develop futures even more attractive than the present. This calls for radical creativity.

We are committed to identifying and solving grand societal challenges and it's during September that we can show the best examples of our cross-disciplinary collaboration, which contributes to a sustainable society.

Show how your work builds a better world

Please suggest a project that is directly related to the SDG's; for example, it can provide substantial benefits in advancing better education, a circular economy, sustainable consumption, clean energy, renewable materials, water management, food security, transport or mitigation of climate change  – you name it.

We are looking for world-class research projects, academic insights and study projects. Exhibited projects can be things such as service design, material innovations, educational innovations, system designs or prototypes. We also welcome works-in-progress to apply.

We want to showcase border-crossing collaboration between science, art, technology and business. The more versatile the team that is working on the project, the better, but we prefer projects that haven't been previously showcased in Otaniemi.

Log in with your Aalto credentials to download the application file and read more from the details below on this page. Deadline for applications will be February 10, 2020.
