Digitalisation and its possibilities are currently hot topics at Aalto University. The Internet Forum series of public lectures opened at Otaniemi on 20 September.

'Digitalisation is the biggest megatrend right now and will be over the next few years. In this lecture series, which includes eight lectures, we'll be focusing particularly on the various opportunities offered by digitalisation,' explains Professor of Practice Jarno Limnéll at the beginning of the lectures.

Elias Pöyry shared a vision of the possibilities for new services that will be created by digital development over the next few years.

‘Digitalisation is a facilitator. All megatrends are part of digitalisation and the key to solving problems,' he says.

MaaS Global CEO and the inventor of Mobility as a Service (MaaS), Sampo Hietanen, got the audience to think about their need to own a car.

'Transportation will become a service. A user-based approach to thinking is what we need.  Simple is good enough, just as long as it makes life easier.'

The idea of transportation as a service occurred to him ten years ago. He presented his idea in public for the first time at Aalto University.
