Director General Arvo Kokkonen to chair School of Engineering Stakeholder Advisory Board

Members of the board represent co-operation partners from the school's fields of study. In the meeting of the board held in December 2021, Director General Arvo Kokkonen of the National Land Survey of Finland was selected to serve as the board's chair for the two-year period 2022–2023.
'Transparency and inter-administrative collaboration are strengths of the Finnish society. The stakeholder board's members represent a wide-ranging view of the customer base of the School of Engineering. They will transmit the views and expectations of the sector to the leadership of the school regarding a shared direction the university should lay the groundwork for. As an advisory body, the board's task is to help keep the school's leaders aware of the situation and make strategic decisions. In practice, this translates to open discussions and sharing experience,' said Kokkonen.
Meetings of the advisory board will be held biannually to support the school's strategic planning.
'There is a long record of stakeholder co-operation in the field of engineering and this advisory board is the next step in that continuum. The operations of our school are based on the strategy of Aalto University and we wish to ensure that the research and education we conduct are relevant to industry and other stakeholders,' stated Dean Gary Marquis of the School of Engineering.
'I appreciate our stakeholders' commitment to co-operation and the support of the advisory board as part of the school's strategic planning', he added.
The advisory board serves as the voice of industrial, governmental and other partners operating in the school's areas of expertise. Its aim is to discuss matters relating to research, research equipment investments, regional development and to promote collaboration and thus increase the school's impact on society.
The board also intends to discuss the future of engineering work, the impact of the School of Engineering, and increasing student diversity. The group is also expected to comment on the implementation of strategy.
