Essi Viitanen starts as Senior Advisor in Research Services

Essi Viitanen works in Open Science and ACRIS team, mainly on ARTS related tasks.

Essi Viitanen joined the Open Science and ACRIS team in October as Senior Advisor. Her work consists of reporting on the artistic output of Aalto University, developing the assessment criteria of artistic activity, and tasks related to open access publishing and research data management. 

Together with Eeva Savolainen, Viitanen handles the reporting and validating of research output in ACRIS for the School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Viitanen works in collaboration with Aalto University’s Data Advisor Kati Laakso and data agents in managing the ARTS research data.

Essi Viitanen holds a PhD from University College London in the field of film studies. She has lectured on film and cultural studies at University College London, the University of Greenwich and Helsinki University, as well as worked in academic publishing in Finland and the UK. For the past 18 months she has worked as Publishing Editor at Aalto ARTS Books.

In her free time Essi heads into the woods with her dogs and renovates a 150-year-old house.
