The aim of the event is to build bridges between the grass root discoveries and big scale immersive installations. There will be the latest immersive sound applications showcased, as well as a discussion about the future directions of AR & VR experiences.

- The immersive sound practices and terminology are not yet established, but now that virtual reality is once again heavily featured, we also want to transmit the entire natural sound environment - not just the sound recorded with stereo technology, says Tapio Lokki, Aalto University's Associate Professor in Acoustics.

Immersive sound or surrounding sound refers to recording and audio techniques that can transmit the surrounding environment around the listener more accurately than with standard stereo technology.

- Aalto Experience Platform and Digi Platform have recognized immersive sound as one of the research themes in which Aalto University has world class competence. Platforms want to highlight this research competence for the public and showcase our latest immersive sound applications, says Markus Ahola, Project Manager in Aalto University’s Experience Platform.

Speakers include Head of Digital Innovation & Partnerships Luke Ritchie from Philharmonia Orchestra (London), General Manager Aleksi Malmberg from Helsinki Philharmonic, Professor in New Media Lily Díaz-Kommonen, Professors in Acoustics Ville Pulkki and Tapio Lokki, as well as Composer, PhD Andrea Mancianti, all from Aalto University.

Aalto University Experience Platform and Digi Platform organize the event in collaboration with Aalto University Virtual Cinema Lab, University of the Arts, Sibelius Academy, MiklagardArts and Helsinki Art Museum. The event is a side event for The Virtual Orchestra: Sibelius 360.

The event is free of charge and open for everybody interested of the topic.
