Henri Haimi, D.Sc. (Tech.), a long-standing project manager and process specialist at FCG Finnish Consulting Group, has been appointed professor of practice at the Aalto University Department of the Built Environment as of 1 April 2023. The field of the professorship is wastewater treatment. The duration of Haimi’s part-time professor of practice appointment is five years.

Haimi's duties focus on teaching, but he also conducts research. His expertise is in mitigating climate change in the wastewater sector, digital solutions such as modelling and advanced process control, the recovery of resources from wastewater, as well as combinations of these themes.

"Connections with working life offer our students a natural way to familiarise themselves with their field while also providing opportunities for starting on their own career paths – even before graduation. Our professors of practice play a key role in this, and I warmly welcome Henri Haimi to the Aalto University community," says Dean Gary Marquis.

"I am looking forward to being able to bring academic teaching closer to practical work at water utilities, using my long experience at FCG and my knowledge of the field," says Henri Haimi.

"I am very happy about Haimi's appointment. He is a valuable addition to both FCG and Aalto University. This is also a great opportunity for us to get close to the latest research-based knowledge and thus maintain our world-class water expertise", says Tero Pyrhönen, head of water business at FCG.
