School of Business’ new partner company Finavia has a network of 21 airports around Finland. Finavia serves Finnish and international customers by developing connections in cooperation with its partner airlines. It also takes care of the maintenance of the airports and air traffic infrastructure to make travelling as smooth as possible. 

At the moment, Finavia has an investment and development programme underway. This one-billion-euro programme is the biggest one in Finavia’s history. The emphasis of the investments is on strengthening and expanding Helsinki Airport, selected as Northern Europe's leading transit airport.

'Our development programme will create 5,000 new permanent jobs in Helsinki Airport area.” In addition to an extensive development programme, at Finavia we put great emphasis on creating an exceptionally high-quality customer experience', tells Kaarina Soikkanen, Senior Vice President, Director of Administration and Personnel at Finavia. 'The collaboration we have initiated with Aalto University is important to us, because in the future we will need various kinds of expertise at Finavia, including completely new and innovative knowledge.'

Versatility is an advantage

This new partnership is a good addition to the partner portfolio also from the perspective of the School of Business.

'We are very excited to see what kind of collaboration this partnership leads to, since Aalto University and Finavia share various common focus areas that both emphasize in their activities. These include responsibility, internationality, customer relationship development as well as accelerating and making use of ICT-based innovations.'

Air traffic is an important employment provider

Finavia’s airports already provide employment for thousands of people and more jobs will be created under the development programme. School of Business’ students are naturally interested in the business in this sector, as well as the job opportunities the area offers them. In January, Finavia took part in the Aalto University Summer Job Day for the first time and the experience was positive:

'Our stand at the event was visited by a good number of students and it was a pleasure to tell them about Finavia and our versatile career opportunities', says HR Partner Sari Karjalainen.

Through the partnership programme, companies get the chance to engage in long-term collaboration with the School of Business in many different areas. Possible forms of collaboration include developing the company employer brand, contributing to teaching, carrying out research cooperation, for instance in connection with student projects, and acting as a visiting lecturer. A total of 13 companies are currently involved in the programme.
