Finns enjoy success at Nordic Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC)
The was held simultaneously on Saturday, 7 October 2017 at 17 universities throughout the Nordic region.
In NCPC teams of 1–3 members tried over a period of five hours to solve as many algorithmic programming problems as possible in a period of five hours. There were a total of 11 problems and the best teams solved nine of them correctly.
A Norwegian team won this year's NCPC, but no fewer than four Finnish teams were among the top ten. The best team of the University of Helsinki came in second place in the competition, and Aalto's best team, 'KnowYourArchitecture', finished seventh. Aalto's team included Olli Pasanen (second-year student of computer science), Matias Lahti (fourth-year student of computer science) and Henrik Lievonen (second-year student of physics). A total of 252 teams managed to solve at least one problem in the contest.
Taking part in the contest were more than 250 teams, most of which comprised university students from Nordic universities. The best student teams will move on to the in Bath, England, where Aalto's 'KnowYourArchitecture'-team will go, and to the finals which will be held in China in the spring of 2018.
