Four new professors appointed in the School of Engineering

The professorships are located in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and in the Department of Civil Engineering.

Olli Seppänen, D.Sc. (Tech.), has been appointed as Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering for the period 1.2.2020–31.1.2025. The field of the professorship is Operations Management in Construction.

Raine Viitala, D.Sc. (Tech.), has been appointed as Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the period 1.2.2020–31.1.2024. The field of the professorship is Mechatronic Machines and Systems.

Osiris Valdez Banda, D.Sc. (Tech.), has been appointed as Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the period 1.2.2020–31.1.2023. The field of the professorship is Marine Technology.

Mashrura Musharraf, Ph.D, has been appointed as Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the period 1.2.2020–28.2.2023. The field of the professorship is Marine Technology.

A rap algorithm led him to research language models at Google DeepMind – now Eric Malmi returns ÄûÃʵ¼º½ as an adjunct professor

Eric Malmi received his PhD from Aalto University in 2018 with a dissertation that developed AI methods for linking historical records and family trees. At Google DeepMind he has developed Gemini language models and a chess AI. He returned to his alma mater because of ELLIS Institute Finland.
