Implications of Finland's plan to ban coal and cutting oil use

Finland has decided to phase out coal and cut oil use by a quarter by 2030 mainly based on nuclear power and bioenergy, which constitute long-term risks not properly addressed.

Finland has decided to phase out coal and cut oil use by a quarter by 2030. Relying on nuclear power and bioenergy mainly, the Finnish case suggests that traditional energy solutions may also provide a path towards carbon neutrality. A perspective from Aalto University recently published in Energy Policy journal stress that the national energy and climate policies should, however, properly also address the long-term risks of these solutions.
