Increased number of applicants to Bachelor’s Programmes

The field of Science and Technology attracted 11% more first priority applicants. In the Business and Economics programme offered in Helsinki, the increase was 8%.

A total of 9 984 applicants applied ÄûÃʵ¼º½ University in the joint application to higher education. The application deadline was Wednesday last week. Last year there were 9 606 applicants which means that the number of applicants increased by 3.9%. The biggest increase in the number of applicants was in the field of Science and Technology where the number of first priority applicants went up by 11% compared to last year.

Altogether 5 656 people applied to the study options in the field of Science and Technology. As for the field of Business and Economics, the number of applicants for the Finnish-speaking Bachelor’s programme was 3 861 and for the English-speaking International Business programme in Mikkeli the number of applicants was 742. There were 2 060 applicants for the study options in the field of Art and Design. Aalto University was the first choice alternative as a study destination for 61.4% of applicants.

In the field of Science and Technology, the number of first priority applicants increased the most in the study options Information Networks, Computer Science, Bioinformation Technology, and Industrial Engineering and Management, where the increase was over 20% for each of the programmes. There were 2 282 first priority applicants for the Finnish-speaking Bachelor’s programme in the field of Business and Economics and compared to last year, the number of first priority applicants went up by 7.8%. In the English-speaking International Business programme in Mikkeli the number of applicants decreased by approximately one fifth from last year. The decrease was probably influenced by the tuition fees, which will be introduced in the degree programmes taught in English. In the field of Art and Design the number of applicants was nearly the same as last year and 1 319 people out of the 2 060 applicants were first priority applicants. Altogether 1 487 applicants returned the preliminary assignments by the application deadline.

Aalto University publishes the results of the joint application to higher education on 30 June 2017.
