More than 30 students of the Innovative and Sustainable Energy Engineering (ISEE) master’s programme visited Aalto University to learn about Finland, companies in the field and education opportunities offered by the university.

Innovative sustainable energy engineering has an increasingly important role to play in order to ensure the sustainability of future energy production. The programme provides state-of-the-art education in the fields of conventional and renewable energy sources, such as conventional and novel forms of power generation, solar energy, biomass energy, wind power, geothermal power, and energy utilisation in the built environment through economically and environmentally sustainable systems and technologies.

A double degree 

In the N5T double degree programmes, students study at two of the participating universities. Once they graduate, the students receive degree certificates from both universities. Approximately 130 students from various countries are currently studying within these programmes. In addition to cooperation in studies, the network promotes mobility and research collaboration.

Lea Beglerovic from Norway is studying System Integration of Wind Power as a second-year student at DTU.

Lea Beglerovic chose ISEE because it provides the opportunity to study at two universities, receive two degrees in the course of two years and meet other students who have a knack for adventure and science.

- Travelling and meeting new people, sharing your knowledge and experience I feel is the core of this programme and is also essential with respect to gaining knowledge.

- The most interesting parts of energy engineering are the endless possibilities that the field provides. Which source do you want to extract the energy from? How do you store it? How should you distribute it and how do you make it even more efficient? Lea says. Right now, we have all the knowledge to change the world into a better place and make a thriving global community, which bases everything on renewable and sustainable energy, she continues.

- In the future I'd like to work for a power company in Europe or Asia. A lot is happening in the power sector right now and renewable energy sources have come to stay, so there are possibilities everywhere for people within this field.

- I loved Finland from the moment I arrived. Friendly staff and students from Aalto University showed us around in the labs where a lot of interesting work is done on energy systems and energy conversion from biofuels. Finland is known to have a great educational system and it really shows from my short stay here!
