Marketing students invited to a sports business competition
Students in Aalto University and particularly Department of Marketing are welcome to participate in Franz Ideas sports business competition. The competition is organized by WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management, a Düsseldorf based business school, and Camp Beckenbauer, a sports business association. Students are asked to develop innovative ideas on how to best leverage digital services and technologies for an Olympic sport. The deadline for signing up and submitting first stage proposals is December 6th.
The organizers will pay for the travel and accommodation for the members of ten finalist teams in March 2016. The winner of the competition will be given the opportunity to pitch their idea in front of top decision makers from leading sports institutions, CEOs from sports businesses, and chief-editors from media at Camp Beckenbauer Global Summit in October 2016. I interviewed two Aalto University instructors who have used glossaries created by students as coursework in a subject course and a field-specific language course. The assignments are based on active learning methods: the glossaries are not created by the instructor, but by the learners themselves. The interview focused, among other things, on the teaching philosophy behind developing the glossary tasks, how the learning of field-specific vocabulary can be linked to the overall learning objectives of the course, and what technical solutions enable students’ active learning in glossary assignments.
