Marketing students receive best paper award at EURAM

The research investigated the role of customer and competitor information in value creating innovations.

Doctoral students Juho-Petteri Huhtala and Iiro Vaniala from the Department of Marketing at Aalto University School of Business won the European Academy of Management 2016 Conference best paper award in a Strategic Management track. Their research titled 鈥淐apitalizing on Market Orientation through Strategic Competitive Actions鈥 investigated how the customer and competitor information in organizations is transformed to profitable business by executing innovation related strategic competitive actions. They show that companies who meet their customers, analyze their competitors and share this information across the organization tend to come up with more value creating innovations even when the technologies in the industry are mature.

The 2016 European Academy of Management Annual Conference was held in Paris, France in early June. In total there were more than 900 peer-reviewed papers accepted for presentation in the conference, which were authored by more than 2000 scholars. Aalto University was represented by seven scholars who had three peer-reviewed and accepted research papers in the conference competitive paper program. Additionally Aalto University representatives contributed to the program by participating in discussion panels and chairing a special interest group track. The European Academy of Management is a professional community of engaged scholars and reflective practitioners and it was founded in 2001.
