New Marketing Specialist for Summer School

Johanna Fagerström is the new Marketing Specialist for Aalto University Summer School. She is a creative mind with a passion for content creation and both organisational and student communication, including employer branding and content marketing. With a background in both the tech startup world and the academic scene, Johanna has experience from two different worlds that align perfectly with Aalto University.

After graduating with a Master of Arts from University of Helsinki, Johanna started her career by working for a global advertising technology startup, something she refers to as one of her biggest professional learning experiences.

Johanna continued by working for the University of Helsinki Alumni Association, an active association with over 7000 members. After her parental leave, she felt it was time for the next step.

“Working at a startup means hands-on, fast-changing and fast-paced work. It really prepares you for any challenge in your future work life”

Working as the Marketing Specialist for the newly established Summer School at Aalto University means raising awareness of the extremely unique and competitive course offering as well as nurturing and developing partnerships and connections to universities and students all over the world. Aalto University Summer School offers courses in Digital Business, Climate Change, Health and Architecture, Sustainable Biomaterials and Entrepreneurship.

“Aalto University is ranked as the top university in the world in its fields, and a global forerunner in technology, science and design, something I personally find exciting and inspiring. In combination with the Summer School’s mission to create meaningful learning experiences for every student through both challenge-based learning and a technically advanced online learning environment, it truly is the perfect package for me ” Johanna comments.

“Johanna's previous experience in both international networking and alumni relations is extremely valuable for the Aalto University Summer School. We aim to reach and engage a large number of students and welcome them on our on-campus and online courses. Aalto has a well-known brand globally and both partner universities and students are very eager to share experiences with us. Having an experienced professional join our team strengthens our marketing and outreach capabilities,” says Laura Sivula, Head of Summer School.

Students will graduate in a world that offers less structure and a whole new way of working. The ability to recognise the changing landscape of work and the skills needed in the future is becoming more and more critical. Through her own work, Johanna looks forward to being a part of offering students up-to-date learning experiences that truly support them on their career path.
