Olli Jarva granted an award for his thesis on information security by the Finnish Information Security Association
The award was granted in master's degree series of a competition organised by the Finnish Information Security Association. The thesis had been graded 'excellent'.
In his thesis, Olli Jarva developed a model of a smart strong authentication solution which dramatically reduced authentication challenges for legitimate users without compromising security. This was achieved by automatically analyzing contextual data for current and previous authentication attempts and requesting authentication only when deemed necessary.
The purpose of the award, which was established by the Finnish Information Security Association in 2010, is to encourage students to write high-quality theses on information security and in this manner promote Finnish expertise in information security. Master's theses on information security written for Finnish higher education institutions or universities of applied sciences can take part in the competition.
