Tapani Jokinen, Professor Emeritus at the Aalto University Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation, has been awarded honorary doctorate by Óbuda University in Hungary. Tapani Jokinen’s field of research is electrical engineering, particularly electromechanics. He has worked in partnership with the universities in Budapest and Pécs since the 1970s. Óbuda University says the honorary doctorate is a recognition of Jokinen’s considerable merits in the fields of electromechanics, rotating electrical machines, problem solving, and product development, and his high-quality scientific cooperation with the university’s Kálmán Kandó Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

Doctoral candidates were awarded their doctorates, new professors received their gowns and honorary doctorates were conferred on three foreign researchers in the ceremony held at Óbuda University in Budapest on 21 November. In addition to Tapani Jokinen, Professor Janusz Kacprzyk, Academician from the Polish Academy of Sciences, and Professor Didier Dubois from Paul Sabatier University in France received honorary doctorates.

After the ceremony, the new Honorary Doctors held inaugural lectures on their chosen topics. The topic of Tapani Jokinen’s lecture was ‘How can I find new and fresh ideas?’.

Óbuda University was founded in 2010, but its roots date back more than 130 years. The fields represented at Óbuda University are engineering, information technology, business and management, and pedagogy.
