Professor Rauno Ronkainen is Cinematographer of the Year

The Finnish Society of Cinematographers organised the FSC Awards ceremony on Saturday 15 March 2025. Professor Rauno Ronkainen was awarded the Cinematographer of the Year Award for his work in the film Stormskerry Maja.
The award citation says: "Rauno Ronkainen illustrates a story of will, strength and love. A great film that seeks beauty in a barren archipelago and the emotions that burn there."
The prize is awarded annually to a cinematographer who is a member of the association and whose fiction film has been released on screen or streamed during the previous calendar year. This is the fourth time the prize has been awarded. The winner of the award is voted by the Society's membership from a shortlist of three candidates drawn up by a pre-selection panel. The importance of the prize is enhanced by the fact that it is chosen by film professionals.
The other nominees for Cinematographer of the Year were Daniel Lindholm for "Subservience" and J-P Passi for "Kanikuly".
The award-winning statue, "Kuvakulma", was designed and cast by sculptor Juha Menna, who has also designed the Venla statue (given as recognition of the year's best Finnish television programs).
This year's jury was composed of the jury chairman Jarmo Kiuru, last year's winner Kjell Lagerroos as well as Heikki Färm, Marita Hällfors and Jean-Noël Mustonen.
