Raili Pönni appointed Development Director at Aalto University

Pönni has previously worked as the university’s interim Development Director and Head of Planning

Doctor of Science Raili Pönni has been appointed as Aalto University’s Development Director and a member of the management team starting 1 April 2024. She will be responsible for the university’s strategic planning, public relations and global networks.   

Pönni has a Doctor of Science degree from Aalto University in the field of chemical engineering. 

She has a long experience of development positions at Aalto University. Pönni was appointed Head of Planning at Aalto in 2018, and since 2023 has worked as interim Development Director. Earlier, she acted in the role of Development Manager at the Aalto University School of Chemical Engineering. 

Pönni is an active member in international university networks, and she has been awarded by Aalto University for her professional merits. 

Pönni reports ÄûÃʵ¼º½ University President Ilkka Niemelä.

Eric Malmi received his PhD from Aalto University in 2018 with a dissertation that developed AI methods for linking historical records and family trees. At Google DeepMind he has developed Gemini language models and a chess AI. He returned to his alma mater because of ELLIS Institute Finland.
