Scholarships for the most promising information security students

Demand for highly qualified information security professionals has increased dramatically. The number of available job openings significantly exceeds the number of qualified candidates. At the same time, there is widespread concern that many information security professionals lack proper training needed for their current jobs.
鈥淭he increasing digitalization of all aspects of everyday life makes information security and privacy critical aspects of a wide range of systems that affect our daily lives. We are strengthening the collaboration of the university with industry by mutually beneficial partnerships鈥, states Dean Jouko Lampinen from Aalto University School of Science.
F-Secure and Intel have decided to become donors for HAIC. Their donations will be used to award living cost scholarships to top incoming MSc students specializing in information security. In addition Nixu Corporation has become a supporter of HAIC.
鈥淚 cannot overstate the importance of investing in cyber security research and education if we want to secure the computer networks and critical infrastructure we all rely on,鈥 said F-Secure CEO Samu Konttinen. 鈥淚nitiatives like HAIC are great ways to attract and develop talent for the cyber security industry, and we鈥檙e thrilled to support this joint effort between Aalto University and the University of Helsinki.鈥
In May 2016, both universities decided to establish HAIC. It is intended to serve as a common interface towards information security research and education at both universities.
鈥淚ndustry will continue to be dependent on increased numbers of cybersecurity experts. By working with HAIC, Intel supports research and education in this important field鈥, highlights Matthias Schunter, Principal Engineer at Intel Labs.
鈥淩ecruitment in the fast growing cybersecurity sector is becoming increasingly challenging. Partnering with HAIC gives Nixu an excellent opportunity to influence the number of qualified professional and their level of expertise in the future鈥, tells Katja M眉ller, Head of People Operations at Nixu Corporation.
Aalto University and the University of Helsinki have built up strong research groups and education programs in information security and privacy. Collectively they represent the best information security expertise in Finland and one of the best in Europe.
