Professor Metrangolo's research interests include crystal engineering, fluorine chemistry, supramolecular, and biomimetic materials. In particular he focuses on the study of the self-assembly properties of halocarbons and their interactions with biomolecules for applications in the fields of functional materials and nanomedicine.
Professor Metrangolo is the holder of an European Research Council (ERC-StG2012) grant to carry with the project 鈥淔OLDHALO 鈥 Folding with Halogen Bonding鈥, aimed at investigating the relevance of halogen bonding in biological systems. Since 2015 August Aalto university, Department of Applied Physics hosts the other beneficiary part of the grant.
Moreover, he is an author of 182 articles (Source: ISI WoS Core Collection 20-11-15) published in international peer-reviewed journals like Science, Chem. Rev., Chem. Soc.
