Skanska donated occupational safety equipment ÄûÃʵ¼º½ University
Skanska, a project development and construction group, has donated occupational safety equipment to the Aalto University School of Engineering that the students can use in the concrete laboratories and during construction site visits.
‘We want to emphasise the importance of occupational safety already during their studies, and appropriate equipment sends the right message. Construction site visits help students to connect with working life and their possible future employers. Promotion of occupational safety is part of our responsibility and we would like to communicate that to the students who are thinking about their future jobs,’ says Tuomas Särkilahti, CEO at Skanska.
‘With this donation, Skanska wants to show how important it think it is that the future experts of the field adapt the right attitude towards occupational safety during their studies. The donation supports our ability to combine teaching of occupational safety with laboratory exercises and helps us to arrange construction site visits that are an important part of teaching. Skanska's construction site workers have always welcomed us despite the extra work that our visits cause during urgent projects,’ says Professor Jari Puttonen, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Aalto University.
‘The donation sends the message that, at Skanska, the challenging and interesting work tasks of the construction field are performed in a developing and humane environment,’ Puttonen continues.
Skanska has occupational safety related educational cooperation with Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, for example. Since 2016, Skanska has arranged Occupational Safety Card training for Metropolia's first year students of construction economics in Kallio, Helsinki, and Leppävaara, Espoo. During 2017–2018, Skanska is prepared to train 300 students who can qualify for an Occupational Safety Card after the training.
