Spring junk bike collection in Otaniemi

The Otaniemi junk bike collection is here again!

This year, abandoned bikes will be collected in the Otaniemi area not only from properties owned by AYY and Hoas, but also from ACRE’s six properties on the Otaniemi campus, Puumiehenkuja 2, Konemiehentie 2, Otakaari 1, Otakaari 4, Sähkömiehentie 3 and Otaniementie 9.

The relative number of cyclists in Otaniemi is one of the highest in Finland, so naturally there are also a lot of bicycles in the area. Because of the high number of cyclists, some bikes always get left behind, taking up storage space from the bikes that are still being used. Therefore it’s practical to collect these abandoned vehicles and make space for those that are in use.

All bikes will be marked with a colourful bracelet between the 6th and 8th of April. All bikes that still have the bracelet intact will be collected during May. So remember to remove the bracelet from your bike as soon as possible! Please also tell your workmates who aren’t in Otaniemi during the collection period to make sure the bracelet is removed from their bicycle. All collected bikes that are in good condition will be sold in September: then is your chance to buy yourself a working bicycle at an affordable price!

The junk bicycle collection is a joint project organized by AYY’s Campus Section, OtaHoas and ACRE to tidy up the bicycle storages and racks found in Otaniemi. Please address any questions and enquiries about the collection to the Campus section at kampusjaosto@list.ayy.fi. Specific questions regarding the properties of the Aalto University should be addressed to ACRE’s Assistant Property Manager Tuomo Uusitalo at tuomo.uusitalo@aalto.fi.
