Stanford Summer Program 2017 participants selected

For the 7th time Aalto students had the opportunity to apply for the Stanford Summer International Honors Program IHP.

We received a very high number of applications, altogether 81, and as before, a high level of motivation and high academic achievement were featured in nearly all applications.

Numbers of applications by School: ARTS 11, BIZ 37, CHEM 5, ELEC 6, ENG 8 and SCI 14.

The selection process was the same as before; the preliminary selection was made by the Aalto Schools and based on that 16 candidates were invited for an interview. We organized three group interviews with 4-6 students in each interview.

The final selection was based on motivation and vision, academic performance and relevance of the preliminary study plan. Excellent English language communication skills and a strong academic recommendation were naturally required. The interviews were an essential part of the selection process. Also the student鈥檚 ability to represent Aalto at Stanford affected the final decision.

Given the high academic standard and excellent motivation letters, the final selection was again very challenging: all of the students we interviewed were worthy candidates for the SSIHP program. 鈥Once again, we were looking for an Aalto delegation - Aalto students, who all represent the interdisciplinary and diverse Aalto鈥 says Mari-Anna Suurmunne, Head of International Relations.

Sara Gottschalk (ARTS, MSc, Collaborative and Industrial Design), Rasmus Halme (BIZ, BSc, Finance), Olli Laukkanen (CHEM, BSc, Biotechnology and Chemical Technology), Heli Julkunen (ELEC, BSc, Biotechnology), Juhani Riikonen (ENG, MSc, Energy Technology), Rasmus Viitala (SCI, BSc, Engineering Physics and Mathematics).
