Team work pays off – Learning@Aalto Challenge designed education

The Learning@Aalto Challenge gathered people who feel enthusiastic about solving puzzles related to developing the future of education and learning.

The event brought together members of the Aalto community - teachers, professors, students, researchers, service personnel.

“If we want people to take up challenges, rather than force them to push their boundaries it is important to create an atmosphere of trust and possibility to fail, since failure is one of the best ways to learn. When there is trust in a team, people can actually be themselves and expand their comfort zones without fear of failure. I think that collaboration especially in a multidisciplinary contexts can take us way further in education, than competition has so far.", says Martina Dahm, Student Ambassador.

Panel discussion with Esa Saarinen, Martina Dahm, Asta Raami and Frank Martela. Moderator was Ida Tiilikainen.

Seven teams solved hackathon-type challenges. They had 90 minutes to bring ideas and innovate, and then every team presented their results on four powerpoint slides.

Learning Aalto Challenge was organized by Tomi Kauppinen (Aalto Online Learning, A!OLE), Laura Sivula (Learning Challenge Aalto), Sara Rönkkönen (Success of Students – All Well? and Katri Ventus (Programme Attractiveness), and it was part of the Aalto Festival 2018 programme.
