TEMPUS programme – Ensuring of Product Lifecycle Technological Process Efficiency

Developing an international two-year Master’s program for Russian partner universities

Together with the consortium of three European universities, four leading higher education institutions of Russian Federation and two industry partners, Aalto University School of Engineering has been developing an international two-year Master’s program called Ensuring of Product Lifecycle Technological Process Efficiency for Russian partner universities. The new program is in line with European study Programs and the development process was part of European Union’s TEMPUS programme.

As part of the project the Department of Mechanical Engineering organized and carried out training for Russian teachers and offered theoretical and practical background as well as modern tools and educational technologies in engineering materials and machine design to be applied in the new Master program.

The consortium also supported the realisation of the program in Russian partner universities. The Master’s program started in the winter semester 2015/16 in Perm National Research Polytechnic University, South Ural State University and National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University. There is a plan to start the program also in Peter the Great Saint-Petersburg Polytechnic University during 2016-2017.

Student mobility and cooperation with industry

The modular nature of the program ensures universities’ and disciplines’ interaction in education and involvement of employers at all stages of students’ training. Akin to modules in modern factories, blocks of education can be freely exchanged, enabling students to freely move between the participating universities. The third semester, offering a different educational focus in each of the universities, offers students the possibility to visit another partner university, learn about their chosen specialisation and return to their home university with the guarantee to have their grades fully accepted. 

Providing student mobility at the corresponding partner universities, SUCCESS also aims at a much stronger connection between universities and industry, forming student-expert project groups, inviting experts from the industry as lecturers and fostering student placement in companies for internships.

The project “SUCCESS” was supported by the TEMPUS program of the European Union and coordinated by FH JOANNEUM in Graz, Austria.

Project consortium consisted of: University of Applied Science (Graz), Aalto University, Reutlingen University (Germany), Perm National Research Polytechnic University (Russia), St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University (Russia), Tomsk Polytechnic University (Russia), South Ural State University (Russia), Association of Technical Universities of Russia, OJSC Aviadvigatel, TCM International Tool Consulting & Management GmbH.
