The academic year culminates in Ceremony Week festivities in June

Celebrations for all Aalto University graduates will be held during the University's Ceremony Week.

The Ceremony Week ends the academic year at Aalto University and concretises graduates’ transition from students to alumni. Events of the annual Ceremony Week include conferment ceremonies of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture and doctoral degrees in technology as well as the Graduation Party. There will also be events open to the public.

Graduation Party 12 June 2019

Aalto University’s schools organise their master’s and bachelor’s graduation ceremonies on 12 June after which all graduates, their families and alumni gather to celebrate the Graduation Party in Alvar Square. In the Graduation Party, all graduates are provided with a graduation pin to be attached to their lapel or neckline. Bubbling drinks and food as well as live music and dance will elevate the festive spirit through the summer evening.

Ceremonial Conferment of Degrees in Arts, Design and Architecture on 13 June 2019

The School of Arts, Design and Architecture’s ceremonial conferment of master’s and doctor’s degrees takes place on 13 June in the Väre building and the Undergraduate Centre. In addition to the conferment procession, the Act of Conferment, dinners and dances, the conferment tradition includes the Garland Weaving event and the brunch that ends the ceremonial week in Suomenlinna. Professor Lily Díaz-Kommonen will act as the Conferrer, the professor who hands the masters’ and doctors’ their insignia.

The School of Arts, Design and Architecture’s previous conferment ceremony was celebrated in January 2013, and the Department of Architecture’s conferment ceremony was held in June 2018. Information about the conditions of being entitled to promotion are available at the Ceremonial Conferment of Degrees in Arts, Design and Architecture website.

Ceremonial Conferment of Doctoral Degrees in Technology on 14 June 2019

The Ceremony Week ends in the ceremonial conferment of doctoral degrees in technology on 14 June in the Dipoli building. The celebration is hosted by the School of Electrical Engineering, and Professor Ari Sihvola will act as the Conferrer. The conferment ceremony and procession as well as the Act of Conferment are part of the conferment tradition of the schools of technology as well. Inviting jubilee doctors – Doctors of Science (Technology) who were promoted 50 years ago – to the ceremony is also an integral part of the conferment tradition. Doctors of Science (Technology) who have graduated between 1 June 2018 and 30 April 2019 are entitled to participate in the conferment ceremony.
