The configuration of the new firewall continues

There have been a few network disruptions after the firewall installation was made last Sunday.

IT Services has been solving the challenges together with the firewall service provider. Causes of the problems have been identified and resolutions have been discovered.

IT Services will implement corrective measures with minimal disruptions. Firewall configuration changes will be made in the evenings after 8pm. The changes won’t cause network breaks but the probability of unexpected challenges will slightly be increased before we are sure that the repairing actions have been correct. The network will be kept as stable as possible during the working hours.

The firewall installation is a part of the overall security roadmap to raise the security level of Aalto University and at the same time to enable the versatile but secure use of the network for research and teaching purposes. Unfortunately, in the early stages of implementation there have been challenges, but the solution improves the observation and prevention capability required by the EU Data Protection Regulation, reduces the number of security incidents and makes it easier the to create secure solutions.

We apologize for the inconvenience the installation work has caused.
