The ARENA Career Fair attracted some 2,500 business students and about 50 employers to the School of Business on 8 November. In addition to providing career ideas and contacts, recruiting professionals offered students the hottest tips for finding a job.

‘Once again, we succeeded in creating meaningful encounters between business students and employers. Feedback from students and companies show that there is a clear need for this event,’ says Event Coordinator Milja Koski from the School of Business.

Many searches open in partner companies

The majority of School of Business partner companies took part in the fair, because many of them have open positions for business talent either now or in the future.

Talent Acquisition and Employer Branding Specialist Ilkka Kallonen from Finnair revealed that the company will launch its first ever Trainee programme at the end of November. Finnair is growing strongly and is also actively recruiting new personnel for its different business areas.

At the KPMG stand, Business Advisor Sini Kangasniemi said that her company’s high-level KPMG International Case Competition will continue until 30 November. The winning team will be travelling to the final in Malaysia. Participation in the competition is also one path to employment at KPMG.

At the S Group stand, HRD Director Pekka Ruuth explained that the reason so many S Group employees stay with the company for a long time is the good possibilities for job rotation offered by the company. The application period for the S Trainee programme for students begins in March.

Aalto trains multidisciplinary experts

Nordic Healthcare Group, which has its roots at Aalto, is currently recruiting new people. ‘For example, we need data analysts and strategic management experts,’ said HR Manager Tuomas Nuotio.

Founded by students, the Startuplifers programme helps students find internships lasting 6-12 months at various technology start-ups in San Francisco, Tokyo and Shanghai. ‘Companies are especially looking for coders, UX designers and marketing experts,’ explained Veera Vimpari from Startuplifers.

Recruiting professionals attending the ARENA Career Fair encouraged business students to boldly highlight the multidisciplinary expertise and experience that they have gained from practical case work.

‘The ability to communicate about your own skills is crucial in all contacts with employers. Right now, it’s a good idea to focus on approaching interesting employers – especially on LinkedIn – and even make a presentation video about your competence. Personal contacts also continue to be very important,’ says Tanja Makkonen, Senior Manager at School of Business Career Services.

‘I received a lot of feedback from employers about how well prepared the students were for stand meetings at the ARENA Career Fair,’ says Makkonen.
